Extract from Bird Report 2024

Very common resident with numbers increased by wintering visitors. Included in 69.7% of BirdTrack lists. The East of England long-term trend is decreasing -9%*. The long-term trend for Bedfordshire is also decreasing -12%. (Green list).

Records were received throughout the year, with increased numbers from winter influxes. As usual, they were in every garden covered by the Summer Garden Bird Survey. Th e largest single site count was 30 at Wrest Park on 2nd June, with 14 other sites having counts of over 20 during the year. An “obvious influx” was added to the report of 12 from Meppershall on 3rd October, and a count of 24 feeding together in a paddock near Lower Stondon on 7th December also suggested an arrival of migrants.
