Very common resident. Included in 71.5% of BirdTrack lists. The East of England long-term trend is increasing +25%*. The long-term trend for Bedfordshire is also increasing +18%. (Green list).
At Clophill Lakes, 76 fledged from nine nest boxes, and at Southill Park, 25 fledged from five nest boxes. For both sites that was a good result compared to previous years.
Outside of the breeding season, feeders in a Woburn garden regularly attracted flocks of between 20 and 25. Elsewhere, the largest counts were of at least 20 at The Lodge in January and February, and also 20 at Priory CP in March. The next largest were all of 14, from 18 different sites. As usual, in the Summer Garden Bird Survey, they were in all of the gardens.
