Widespread but thinly distributed species. Included in 2.8% of BirdTrack lists. The East of England long-term trend is decreasing -74%*. (Amber list).

Although there were 335 reports from many different sites throughout the county, only 14% were of three or more. The largest group was at Strawberry Hill Farm, where during 21st–24th July, there were up to 12. There were just two further significant counts, with six at Brogborough Hill on 27th October and up to seven at Potton on 16th–17th November. They were found in just 6% of gardens during the Summer Garden Bird Survey, the lowest level since the summer surveys started in 1998.
