Extract from Bird Report 2024

Rare visitor. (Amber list).

Continuing from December 2023, nine at Grovebury SP, the highest count in 2024, were still present on 1st January, with two lingering until 13th January (DB, DH, LGRE et al.). There were two at Harrowden WM on 3rd–10th January (AY et al.), perhaps the same two at Willington on 21st January (TP) and two at Biggleswade Common on 6th March (MT). There were then three at Cople on 17th May (LB), two at Coronation ClP on 29th June (SCB, PN) and probably the same pair at MCP Wetlands NR on 30th June. One at Priory CP chose to roost with up to 16 Little Egrets during February, and elsewhere there were several records of singles. With records in every month apart from October, during the year they were in 12 general areas, but with some interchange between sites. Most records were in the months of January, February and  December. (‘Casual’ records on BirdTrack do not appear in the graph, only those submitted as part of a ‘Complete list’).
