Extract from Bird Report 2024

Common resident. Included in 11.7% of BirdTrack lists. The East of England long-term trend is decreasing -23%*. (Green list).

Confirmed breeding took place at Bedford Old Cemetery, Deepdale Quarry, Maulden Wood, Myers Farm Potton, Old Warden, Potton Wood, Sandy, Sutton and Woburn, although that list is clearly understated as they no doubt breed in most areas with conifer plantations. They were in 50% of gardens during the Summer Garden Bird Survey, the lowest level since the summer surveys started in 1998.

The largest counts during the year were ten at Rushmere CP in January, ten at New Wavendon Heath in February, 14 at The Lodge in June and 20 there in December.
