Common resident, increasing. Included in 31% of BirdTrack lists. The East of England long-term trend is increasing +31%*. The long-term trend for Bedfordshire is also increasing +62%*. (Green list).

At least 21 juveniles were reported from a total of 13 sites, although that was no doubt under-recorded.Only 4% of records (146 out of 3,457) included breeding codes (possible 63, probable66 and confirmed 17).

Where noted, most counts referred to one or two birds. The maximum count was seven in Wrest Park on 25th February.
