Common resident. Included in 39.7% of BirdTrack lists. Th e East of England long-term trend is stable +/-0%. (Green list).

Breeding was confirmed at 21 sites (12 in 2023), with probable breeding at a further eight and possible breeding at another nine; there is a trend towards more accurate recording of breeding status in recent years, although the prevalence of successful breeding in the county remains under-recorded. Records were received for the breeding season period from 91 sites across the county. They were found in only 65% of gardens during the Summer Garden Bird Survey, the lowest level since the summer survey in 2014.

The largest flocks were 34 at Arlesey on 31st October, 31 at Myers Farm Potton on 12th June, and counts of 30 at Broom East on 1st November, Exeter Wood on 23rd December, King’s Wood, Houghton Conquest on 27th October and Priory CP on 17th January. There were 18 more records of counts in the range of 20–29.
