Widespread resident. Included in 34.1% of BirdTrack lists. Th e East of England long-term trend is increasing +40%*. (Amber list).
Signs of breeding activity were first recorded in January with display flights, with the first nest with fledged young on 29th May at Willington. Recently fledged youngsters were at Houghton Brook Pools, Lodge Farm Lake, Myers Farm Potton, Tetworth Hall Estate and Thurleigh Airfield through the summer months, although breeding activity is under-recorded.
The largest flock of around 200 was in a stubble fi eld near Biggleswade on 20th January, which was the best count all year, with other substantial counts including 150 at Langford on 16th May, 120 at Broom East on 24th March and 118 at Myers Farm on 7th March.
