Extract from Bird Report 2001

An extremely rare vagrant with a single record, in 2001.

The first county record was a first-winter individual at Stewartby Lake late on the afternoon of 31st October (KBS et al). This bird had previously been at Willen Lake, Buckinghamshire and was the latest ever record in the British Isles. Only a few county birdwatchers were privileged to see this exciting bird and it caused much heart-stopping as it disappeared on three occasions. This record has been accepted by the BBRC.
