Overview
This wood is owned by Luton Borough Council and has been managed by the Greensand Trust with volunteers. It is an ancient wood, as indicated by the flora – in spring it is carpeted with bluebells, plus wood anemone and wood sorrel.
In the late ’80s, Hawfinch and Lesser Spotted Woodpecker bred here. Many of the decaying birches were lost during the Great Storm of1987, and bramble undergrowth was destroyed before the management was taken on by the Greensand Trust.
