Overview
This is a new venue for a Bird Club Walk and we are delighted that Sinéad has agreed to lead this walk and share her knowledge of this site.
The Meadow Lane site includes two areas: 100 Acre Field towards the south-west and Castle Mills in the north-east. It contains a large lake with an island that has two small pools on it which are difficult to view once the scrub and grass have grown. The north-east, Castle Mills, end of the lake is the shallower part, which tends to attract more waders. There are plenty of warblers: Sedge, Reed, Willow, Whitethroat, and possibly Lesser Whitethroat. Cuckoos will hopefully be there as well as hirundines and the usual duck and geese species.
Walking boots/shoes would be a good option, as the ground can be muddy and uneven in places. The walk will take a couple of hours and we may go on to Priory if time allows or there is something of note to be seen.
Meeting Location
Priory Country Park (Turn left just inside the Park entrance from Barkers lane and go to the end of the access road) – Bedford
There is not always very many spaces free at the end of the lane, but there is another small car park at the other end of the lane i.e. when you turn into Priory CP, you turn immediately left to go down to Meadow Lane and immediately on the left, there is a car park just after the recycling bins.
