Overview

Nick Acheson is a Norfolk conservationist and author who has returned to his home county after ten years in South America, four in Asia and work on every continent and ocean. 

Deprived of work, people and income during the long winter lockdowns of 2020-21, Nick climbed aboard his mother’s 42-year-old bicycle and spent seven cold months following the great flocks of Arctic geese which visit Norfolk every year. In total he cycled 1,200 miles, in pursuit of pink-footed and dark-bellied brent geese, and he saw a host of other wildlife. Throughout the winter he kept a diary, of nature observations and his conversations with fellow lovers of geese. It became his award-winning book The Meaning of Geese.
