Overview

Delayed until 10:30am due to the weather!

We are planning to have another working party at Gypsy Lane a week on Saturday – weather dependant – to try and remove a lot more scrub from the northern end of the wetland areas. Many thanks to all those who helped last year. It did improve the site and we did enjoy some breeding success which would probably not otherwise have happened, so making a real difference to our wetland birds.

I would like to start at 9.30am if possible and we will keep going as long as we can – obviously there is no need for everyone to do a full day and even an hour would be appreciated. If you have hand tools that can be used, please do bring them along, loppers, shears, rakes, etc. It has been very wet, so I strongly recommend gloves and either welly boots or waders as the ground in some areas is very muddy and wet, so walking boots probably won’t be sufficient. Cars can be parked carefully in the gate way or along Gypsy Lane in the various off road spaces. If you are able to double up with other volunteers, that would be ideal as parking is quite limited but I am sure we could probably accommodate 15-20 cars at various points if parked carefully.

I need to remind everyone that, in order to take part, you need to be a current paid-up member of either the Bedfordshire Bird Club or the Bedfordshire Natural History Society in order for our public liability insurance to cover you for any damage caused to the site (!) – please note that it is not a policy which covers accident or injury to yourselves, so participation is very much at your own risk.

I hope to see as many of you as possible and we can try and get as much cleared as possible before the breeding season commences.

If, for any reason, the weather is forecast to be diabolical, I will cancel the event (and re-schedule) , but will let everyone know by 6pm on Friday 27th February. Fingers crossed we get reasonable weather!

Many thanks

Peter
