2023/4 Winter Garden Bird Feeding Survey

Results in The Hobby 185 (July 2025)

For the survey covering the 22-week period from the beginning of October 2023 to the end of February 2024, we received returns from 69 gardens, an increase of three from the previous winter.

The average number of species recorded in the rural gardens was 24.7, the lowest since winter 2013/14, and in urban gardens was 19.5, which is about average.

The total number of species in the surveyed gardens last winter was 75, equalling the record set in the
previous winter, and which included our first Yellow-legged Gull in this survey.
