November 2021 Bird News

Whooper Swan – five near Potton on 13th, also five, a family party of two adult and three juvenile at Brogborough Lake on 24th

Garganey – one from October remained at MCP Wetlands NR until 4th

American Wigeon – the male first noted on 27th October was recorded at MCP Wetlands NR on a few dates early in the month up to 24th. Although it was not always present there, it was not located anywhere else during the period.

Shoveler –  a high count of minimum 58 at Broom East CWS on 29th

Marbled Duck type hybrid – an interesting bird recorded at MCP Wetlands from 3rd to 10th had features that did not allow an clear identification to his parentage

Red-crested Pochard – a single on Gypsy Lane West pit at Broom GP and a pair at Priory CP on 6th

Scaup – a first winter male was at Grovebury SP from 19th untilend of month

Goldeneye – two at Priory CP on 6th, two at Grovebury SP on 14th, up to ten at Brogborough Lake

Goosander – a high count of seventeen at Harrold-Odell CP on 30th included six drakes

Dunlin – one at Broom East CWS from 15th to 19th, two at Grovebury SP on 22nd

Hoopoe – one reported near Shuttleworth on 3rd

Wood Pigeon – a large southerly passage on 3rd included a flock estimated at 2500 over Priory CP and a count of 7000 in two hours from The Pinnacle, Sandy

Jack Snipe – noted at Black Cat GP

Redshank – one at Meadow Lane GP on 30th

Great White Egret – one over Sandy on a vismig watch on 4th, then two over there the next day, also noted in Meadow Lane GP area from 15th to 22nd and at Priory CP on 29th

Mediterranean Gull – an adult winter at MCP Wetlands NR on various dates from 6th to 15th

Marsh Harrier – a female seen on a number of occasions in the brick pits from 2nd to 20th, noted in Quest Pit,  MCP Wetlands NR and Rookery South ClP. Another seen in the south of the county near Galley Hill on 15th and maybe the same over Barton Hills NR being mobbed by Red Kites on 21st

Red Kites – a roost of maybe 40 birds just over the county boundary east of Barton Hills NR  on 21st

Merlin – one at Poppy Hill, Henlow on 9th and 15th, at Poppy Hill Farm on 21st, another at Meadow Lane on 30th

Firecrest – one near Potton on 20th and 23rd

Redwing – a big passage on 4th included 20000 counted over The Pinnacle, Sandy

Fieldfare – a big passage on 4th included 12000 counted over The Pinnacle, Sandy

Hawfinch – one over The Pinnacle, Sandy on 5th, two over there on 6th, one at Wrest Park on 18th
