Regular passage migrant, scarce winter visitor and very rare breeder. (Red list).
Three pairs were at Thurleigh Airfield throughout the breeding season with at least two fledged young being raised – an excellent successful breeding record for this declining wader. The first, a male, arrived at the site on 3rd March, which was also the first in the county for 2024. By 17th March there were five on site, increasing to six by 31st March, staying until 30th June. Two adults were still present on 7th July (PN).
Elsewhere, there were singles at Radwell Lakes on 5th March and over Coronation ClP on 16th March. There were two at Stewartby Lake on 23rd April, four at Grovebury SP on 26th April, two over Meppershall on 23rd June, one at Coronation ClP on 20th July, and two over Blows Downs on 28th August.
