Widespread resident. Included in 9.1% of BirdTrack lists. The East of England long-term trend is decreasing -27%. (Amber list).

There was an encouraging increase in the number of sites where breeding activity was reported, from 22 in 2023 to 32. Breeding was confirmed at 17 sites, probable at eight and possible at seven.

With nearly 1,150 records submitted and covering all months, and despite a national population reduction, it is still a widespread raptor.
