Common winter visitor, passage migrant and breeder. Included in 35.6% of BirdTrack lists. (Green list).
Breeding took place at four sites: Blunham Lakes, Coronation ClP, Harrold-Odell CP and Tustings Lake at Harrold. At Blunham Lakes nest building started on 1st February and by 9th March there were eight nests there. Rates of fledging were hard to assess at this site, but several large juveniles were present on 18th June. At Coronation ClP, on 18th May, 20 nests had adults or juveniles and by 20th July nine nests were still occupied. At Harrold-Odell CP at least four nests were occupied and at Tustings Lake there were at least eight nests.
The largest groups during the year were 101 at Coronation ClP on 27th July and 75 at Stewartby Lake on 24th August, with Priory CP holding the highest count, of 121 on 24th October.
