Resident and localised breeder, winter visitor and passage migrant. Included in 6.5% of BirdTrack lists. (Amber list).
Confirmed breeding took place at Clifton Bury Farm, Dunstable WTW, the River Ivel near Broom East, Harrowden WM, Langford Meadows, Meadow Lane GP, Palmers Wood, Sandy, Thurleigh Airfield and Wardown Park. Probable breeding took place at Biggleswade, Bromham Bridge, Gadsey Brook and Southill Lake.
The largest gatherings were of 20 feeding on filter beds at Leighton Linslade WTW on 28th January and seven at Wrest Park on 9th June. In the Summer Garden Bird Survey they were in 15% of gardens, the highest level since the summer survey began in 1998.
