Extract from Bird Report 1999

A rare vagrant to the county.

Following strong coastal winds, one was found at Priory CP on 20th November where it remained until 14:00 hours the next afternoon (DK et al). This was the fifth county record and the first one since one at Coronation ClP from 18th to 26th October 1991. It was a very small and dark skua, probably the smallest pomarine at the extreme end of the size range. The problems of identifying lone skuas in the county remain.
