Widespread resident and a breeder since at least 2007. Included in 52% of BirdTrack lists, compared to 46.3% in 2023. (Green list).

Widespread, conspicuous and recorded almost daily throughout the year. Breeding was confirmed at 12 sites, with probable breeding at a further 27.

There were nine counts of 30 or over. In January, there were 31 at Barton-le-Clay (where it was likely that feeding was taking place) and 39 roosting at Cockayne Hatley Wood on the 5th. In February, there were 40 at Barton-le-Clay on the 3rd and then 34 there on the 9th. There were 30 at Woburn Park on 21st March and then 40 at Barton-le-Clay on 24th April. Post-breeding, there were 54 at East Hyde following tractors on 27th July, and then the largest count of the year, of 58 following a plough near Meppershall on 4th August. In September, there were 30 at Barton-le- Clay on the 6th.
